1998 EgyNet is established as the first privately owned public data network in Egypt. ![]() 2000 Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Minister of Communications and Information Technology officially inaugurates the launch of EgyNet services. 2001 Acquisition of two prominent ISPs: Internet Egypt and Soficom Communication. EgyNet penetrates the Internet market very aggressively. Telecom Regulatory Authority extends EgyNet license to offer ADSL service using Telecom Egypt copper wires. Number of POPs reaches 100. 2002 EgyNet starts offering Virtual ISP (VISP) service nationwide for ISPs, ASPs and content aggregators with the introduction of the free Internet model. EgyNet operates its first T3 connection to the Internet. Number of POPs reaches 150. 2003 Net starts offering International VPN services. EgyNet upgrades its Internet connection to a full STM1. Number of POPs reaches 190. 2004 International Bandwidth Capacity reaches 3 x STM1 No of PoPs exceeds 200 Introduction of the Any-to-Any VPN service bringing the best of the ATM and IP worlds 2005 EgyNet connects ADSL lines in 5 working days EgyNet increases the number of installed ADSL ports to 50,000 ADSL ports to become the largest ADSL provider. |
